It is part of the WAP (W-Arli-Pendjari ecosystem) and is one of the largest protected areas of West Africa. Geology and Hydrography
Pendjari River is the only major river in the park. It rises in the Atacora Mountains in Benin, passes through the Togo as the Oti and then empties into Lake Volta in Ghana.
The Pendjari River is 300 km total in length with approximately 200km in the National Pendjari Park. It has a low flow in the dry season and dries up in several places. The Direction of Pendjari National Park (DPNP) is the administrative office responsible for the daily management of the Pendjari Biosphere Reserve. Since 1996, DPNP is one of the administrative organizations of the National Centre for Management of Wildlife Reserves (CENAGREF).
